Rosh Chodesh ( Women's Group)
PCS monthly women’s gathering
ROSH CHODESH CALENDAR 5770
Monday, October 19 Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan
Cheshvan is the month of silence, a month without holidays. Please join us when Julie Martinez shares her journey toward t’shuva–her self-discovery of her hidden Jewish roots. (All welcome.)
Sunday, November 8 Rosh Chodesh Kislev (see more film detail below) Kislev is symbolized by a rainbow and signifies the connections we make between what we think we know and what appears to be. To celebrate Kislev PCS will offer a special screening of the documentary “Who Does She Think She is?” about women artists. (All welcome; suggested contribution $5)
Thursday, December 17 Rosh Chodesh Tevet
Tevet is the month when our desire for light is great and we search for fullness from the emptiness. Join us on the seventh night of Chanuka when Dr. Judith Schmidt guides us in a Chanuka meditation. (All welcome; bring your menorahs.)
Friday, January 15 Rosh Chodesh Sh'vat
Cancelled
Thursday, February 11 Rosh Chodesh Adar Click here for details
Adar is the month when we honor the beauty of Queen Esther. For this month we will celebrate the Rosh Chodesh holiday (women were rewarded for not giving up their gold to make the golden calf) when curator Deganit Stern Schocken, one of Israel’s leading contemporary studio jewelers, discusses the current milieu of jewelry design in Israel within an historical and cultural context.
Tuesday, March 16 Rosh Chodesh Nisan
Nisan is the month when we celebrate liberation and renewal. Music therapist Maya Benattar leads a music workshop designed to relieve stress and provide relaxation for body and mind. Music experiences may include drumming, music-assisted meditation/guided imagery, singing, humming/toning, and guided music listening. Together, we will reconnect to the ancient traditions of song and rhythm. No musical experience necessary, all are welcome!
Wednesday, April 14 Rosh Chodesh Iyar
We will meet at the home of Cristina Altieri-Martinez for a pot-luck dinner and to discuss the book, The Jewish Husband – a story of love and secrets in Fascist Italy, by Lia Levi, an award-winning Italian journalist and novelist. Her book tells the story of a young Jewish professor during Fascist times, and how he and others are forced to make painful compromis-
es. The book is available in paperback at bookstores and online.
Friday, May 14 Rosh Chodesh Sivan
Sivan is the month that we celebrate the receiving of the torah and peoplehood. The Rosh Chodesh committee will host a special Shabbat service in which Rabbi Mark will highlight the feminine aspect of divinity. Service is followed by dinner. (All welcome; RSVP to PCS required for dinner.)
Note: Unless otherwise specified, programs will be held at PCS at 7:30 pm.
