PCS Congregational Meeting
Sunday, January 11 at 4 pm
The congregation is each of you. Your involvement is a necessary,
valuable and critical element of synagogue life and operations here at
PCS. Ultimately, there is no congregation without you.
There are
matters of paramount importance to be addressed at the upcoming
Congregational Meeting and we hope you will make every effort to
attend and give your input.
The contract
for Rabbi Mark Sameth will expire June 30, 2015, and as he has let
the Congregation know, he has chosen not to renew. The entire Board
and Planning committee share a high regard for and commitment to
Rabbi Mark and the innumerable contributions he has made to our community.
We also have a fiduciary obligation to the congregation. The
negotiations with Rabbi Mark over the past 6 months have been
thoughtful and thorough as we have strived to find the best solution
for the synagogue. Unfortunately, we were unable to come to financial
terms with the Rabbi.
Please come
and share your thoughts and ideas as we face this period of
transition at the synagogue, offering your voice to new ideas. Time
will be set aside for an open discussion.
Among the
presentations will be:
- A status report on
this year's developments.
- A presentation about
the negotiations and future financial projections by Executive
Board member and Planning Committee Chair, Mark Freiheit.
- A financial review
and presentation of the 2014-15/5775 budget by Executive Board
member and Treasurer, April Lasher Sanders.
- An overview of the
Vision Committee, which is being developed to further define
future PCS goals and directions, led by Executive Board member
and Vision Committee Chair, Laurie Hirsch Schulz.
- Announcement of the
formation of a Rabbi Search Committee to find a replacement
after Rabbi Mark leaves July 1. If you wish to help the
committee or even serve, please send an e-mail to Marcy Gray.
The synagogue
is all of ours. We at the Board are merely congregant volunteers, and
we do our best to represent the voices of the whole membership. As we
transition to a new phase at PCS, your voice becomes even more vital.
In addition to the conversations we will have at the meeting, the
newly formed Vision Committee needs your engagement and input. In the
upcoming weeks, we will be reaching out to survey congregants to hear
your vision for the future PCS. Please respond and provide
thoughtful, constructive input. And please, contact Laurie Hirsch
Schulz if you would like to get even more involved. Vision Committee membership is open and help is needed.
We look
forward to seeing you at the meeting.
