A Hebrew School Your Kids Can Love
|
Pleasantville Community Synagogue Hebrew School is a thriving community within a community. With children from towns all over Northern Westchester - in our Kindergarten through Seventh Grade alone - our intimate and nurturing environment is an active and exciting one. Peer support, caring teachers, the guidance of the rabbi and school director, all go into making the PCS Hebrew School experience one that is valued by both the children and their families.
Our Hebrew School seeks to create for our children an Olam Yehudi Katan, a small Jewish world, experiential as much as it is academic. The staff of caring, committed teachers under Galit Messman’s direction work to fashion what amounts to an extended Jewish family, where each child is appreciated and loved. The continuity of the teaching staff coupled with the intimacy of the teaching environment allows for an extraordinary level of relationship-building with both children and parents. We offer various programs for families with young children from infancy on, such as Tot Shabbats, home-based holiday celebrations, and "Growing Jewish Naturally," a series of events funded by a grant from UJA Federation that offer Jewish experiences with nature, organic food and the environment. For our teens in middle school and high school, we offer a variety of social, cultural, religious and volunteer opportunities in our own community and the broader Jewish world. |
An important and innovative addition to our children’s education has been our monthly Family Education Shabbat. The Saturday morning study, led by the Rabbi and based on the Torah portion of the week, provides our children with a rare chance to talk about things that really matter with their friends and their parents at the same time. Their friends give them support, their parents give them perspective.
