Family Education Shabbat - 10:00 am on scheduled Saturday mornings, after the 9am Meditation. What People Are Saying...

HAVE A GOOD TALK WITH YOUR KIDS
One thing our children need is a chance to talk with their peers and their parents at the same time. Their peers give them support; their parents give them perspective. So come with your 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th grader to our next “Family Education Shabbat” at PCS. This monthly series of guided, inter-generational discussions draws its topics from the weekly Torah portion – always relevant to our lives today (past topics have included: bullying, helpful & hurtful speech, peace-making). Saturday morning schedule for 2011/2012 (5772):  October 22, November 26, December 24, January 28, February 11, March 21, April 28

Torah Study

Join us for Torah study at about Noon, following Shabbat services and Kiddush almost every week. A rotating group of leaders - including members of the community, visiting teachers, and our own Rabbi Mark - ensure a varied and vibrant discussion!

And don't forget our monthly "Family Education Shabbat" above - which is focused on small-group Torah study for all!

Click here to read various commentaries on the weekly Torah portion on the internet.

Birthday Blessings

Come for a birthday blessing on the first Friday of the month. Children and adults are invited to receive a "birthday blessing" at Shabbat services, to acknowledge and celebrate their milestone in the company of their spiritual community.

"Friday Night Alive" Shabbat Services

Catch the Shabbat spirit with the PCS House Band "The Plezmatics," featuring David Ebert, Gary Greenwald, Ronnie Marans, Aydin Mayers and Michael Mayers.
Morning Meditation - 9:00 am, Saturday mornings, prior to the Shabbat service. We generally sit for half an hour. Once a month we sit for an hour. Please check our website calendar for the dates you're interested in. The half-hour sit is silent meditation with brief, guided instruction. The hour-long sit includes kirtan-style (call and response) chanting, a centering reflection (Devar Torah) from Rabbi Mark, as well as brief, guided instruction.

"The root of everything is meditation" - Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azzulai (The Chida, 1724-1806)

"Morning Meditation" is open to PCS members, as well as to non-members; Jews, as well as to interested non-Jews. We may think of meditation as an "eastern" practice. But, as the great teacher of Jewish Meditation, Aryeh Kaplan, reminded us, "Judaism is an Eastern religion that migrated to the West." One needn't have a background in Judaism or meditation to derive benefit from these sessions - simply a desire to begin to achieve an inner peacefulness through the quieting of the mind, and the exploration of various simple mindfulness techniques. "Morning Meditation" is led by congregant/practitioners and by Rabbi Mark.

Tot Shabbat (7pm) and Children's Services (7:15pm) - on scheduled Friday nights
