Yavneh, A salon series; what it means to be a Jew at this moment

Yavneh: A Jewish text-based salon series about what it means to be a person and a Jew at this moment of disruption in our country and our world

Are you looking for a place to have meaningful conversations, in a Jewish context, about what it means to be a person and a Jew at this moment of disruption in our country and our world? A new text-based dialogue–more salon than text study–will be kicking off in late April.

The group will be small (8-15 members), consistent and member led. We will be meeting 8 times over the remainder of the year, approximately monthly, in person for sessions that are 90-120 minutes on a weekday evening TBD. We will meet in one of the group member's homes.

At the center of how the group will work, and the jumping off point for the conversations we will be having together, will be a Jewish text and topics such as: living in a world of AI; what does it mean to live in a post-truth world?; How can we become more resilient and develop new rituals to ground ourselves at a time of extreme uncertainty? What is the role of collective trauma in our sense of Jewish peoplehood? How do we contend with the climate crisis and the grief surrounding it.

Leadership:

The group will be led by Shari Cohen, with support from Rabbi Shosh. Shari is a leadership coach and facilitator and has a great deal of experience designing meaningful dialogue experiences, including conversations based around Jewish texts. Shari is also a new member at PCS.

Part of a grassroots Jewish community building project:

The group has been selected as a Hadar community group, a project that is aiming at a grassroots approach to building Jewish community. You can find more information about this project here.

If you are interested in learning more about this program and getting a taste of what the discussions will be like, there will be a meeting on April 9 from 6:30-7:30 PM at the home of Laurie Shulz lhirschschulz@gmail.com.

Since April 9th is the night Pesach ends, we will be serving pizza.
