Pleasantville Community Synagogue
Our Educational Director
Theater, Torah, and two decades of Pleasantville kids.
Learning at PCS runs through Galit Messman — Hebrew School, B'nei Mitzvah tutoring, and the holiday celebrations that hold the year together.
Educational Director
Galit Messman
An educator who believes Jewish learning should feel like something worth showing up for.
Galit has been the Educational Director at Pleasantville Community Synagogue since 2012, and an educator in Pleasantville for almost twenty years. She also serves as Director of Education at Arc Stages, where she teaches classes, directs productions, and runs a theater camp for children ages 5–18.
She graduated with Honors from New York University, where she studied Theater alongside Hebrew and Judaic Studies, and has since studied at Hebrew College and at the Davidson School of Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary.
Galit was one of the very first Torah readers at the opening of PCS in 1997. She has tutored B'nei Mitzvah students at both PCS and CSI in Briarcliff, and has led countless classes, programs, and holiday celebrations.
Through PCS she takes part in the Coalition of Innovating Congregations, a project of the Jewish Education Project, as well as the Westchester Association for Temple Educators.
