Pleasantville Community Synagogue is a welcoming Jewish community connecting people of diverse traditions and backgrounds who want to share a joyous spiritual and cultural home.
Our membership includes traditional and non-traditional Jews, intermarried, LGBTQ, and multi-racial individuals and families of all ages, from throughout the county. Our members and our traditions come from Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist, and Jewish Renewal backgrounds and more.
You do not need to know Hebrew. You do not need to have belonged to a synagogue before. You do not need to have made up your mind about God. Come once and see how it feels.
What joining actually means here
A place that knows your name
We are small enough that the rabbis know your kids, and that someone notices when you have been away for a few weeks.
Joyful Judaism, out loud
Guitars, drums, singing, dancing with the Torah. Prayer here is participatory, not a performance you watch from a seat.
Learning for every age
Hebrew School on Sunday mornings, B’nai Mitzvah tutoring, adult classes, and text study. It does not stop at thirteen.
People who show up for you
Two rabbis for lifecycle moments, illness, grief, and celebration. A congregation that brings meals and sits shiva with you.
Membership here is a partnership
Think of it less as a subscription and more as a creative partnership — a mutual commitment between you and a community that is still being built. You are not buying seats. You are helping to make the thing that other people will walk into next year.
That means we would rather talk with you than hand you a form and a number. Every household’s situation is different, and the conversation about what your participation looks like is a real conversation, not a transaction.
